Its tough Alex rims will stand up to years of commuting and singletrack riding, and the SRAM 21-speed drivetrain will get you up any climb. For that price a department store could not beat, the simaler a department store bike (entrie level hard tail mountain bike) would have not lasted that long at the same running cost, not even close or kinda close. it just sucked having to fix it all the time. I got the base model 09Hardrock (BLUE color) with the best Amarillo crosstrail tires. I'v put more than 8000 ride hard miles, in all types of weather. I'v been hit by 2 cars (requiring minor shop repair) at different times and crashed on the trails a bit over 10 times since 09 and the bike still works fine (not requiring repairs at the shop, just minor fix/adjustment). I ride it on the hard stuff and the small. it dosent need much maintenance to keep it going. the total cost over that distance is 3 or 4 "bikeshop cheap" chains, 2 or 3 "bikeshop cheap" freeweels, and 2 or 3 tuneUPs (not including crashes). the bike has not been totaled. total down time of every year is about one week in the shop. the bike rides very nicely even now. I abuse this bike and it still delivers well. even with some frame damage. this is the go to bike for kicking it around town and the trails. this bike is cheaper than a department store bike via ownership cost and rides much better.

The past year or so I have been getting into mountain biking. I was looking for a good beginner bike that wouldn't break the bank and would allow for future upgrades. This Hardrock fit the bill. I absolutely love the blue coloring, too.I have truly enjoyed riding this bike for the past year and love [...] as well. Employees are knowledgable, helpful, and polite.

My wife and I each bought a bicycle from [...] the same day. I had my heart set on this bicycle after doing a lot of research. I had to persuade my wife into spending the extra money on a good quality bicycle. I absolutely refused to buy one from a big box store. This Hardrock does everything I want it to do and more. The ride is great, it shifts smooth. As I mentioned the lack of lockout on the forks, not a big deal. Even if I had it, it would probably be of no use to me. I feel confident when I ride it all over town and through the paths at recreational parks. The bike is very appealing to the eye. It does great on pavement and rough surfaces. At 30 years of age I'm glad to have added riding back into my lifestyle.

I got the Hardrock disc for Christmas. i have had to take it in to the shop about 50 times since then. But this bike has been a very nice bike to own and the durability is great. And man don't even get me started on how fast you can go on this bike. Over all this is the best mountain bike I have ever had.

I recently purchase this bike. I have approx 100 miles on it so far. The rim brakes stop fast than my friends disc brakes. This is light and nimble and the double wall rims are very sturdy. I love the SRAM shifters. They are very ergonomic. I loved the bike so much I talked my sister into buying one just like it and she loves hers as well. I am new to MTB and this bike is great for me.

After almost 500 miles on this bike. I have very few things to complain about. Other than normal adjustments after riding several miles and some lil operator comforts. This bike is a great value.
